Introduction
At this juncture of the course it is clear that there are great benefits to be derived from using ICTs but also some potential hazards. What we need to do is to look for ways to safeguard our students from potential harm but also to instil in them responsible behaviour. The following activity is designed to help us start strategising to this effect.

Activity

  1. Working as a group, spend some time brainstorming the positive and negative aspects of students using and accessing ICTs.
  2. Create a concept map/mind map which summarises the benefits and risks of ICTs for students.
  3. Add to your concept map a set of ‘actions’ or ‘safety hints’ which link to the risks you have identified.
  4. Discuss your ideas as a class in a tutor-led discussion.
  5. Make sure you have a copy of the group’s concept map to bring to the practical session.
